Pre-launch draft

This document is a pre-launch draft

Date Africa Diamonds is not yet publicly available. This document is published so you can see our intentions before you join, and it will be finalised — and legally reviewed — before the apps launch. Where a detail is still to be confirmed, we say so rather than fill the gap.

The short version

  • We collect what you put in your profile, what you send in messages, and the technical data needed to run the service.
  • We do not track your location. The app does not request GPS access. Cities are the ones you type in yourself.
  • We run no advertising, no analytics and no tracking SDKs in the app or on this website.
  • We never sell your personal information.
  • You can delete your account and its data from inside the app, or request deletion here.

The rest of this page is the detail. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

Who we are

This policy explains how Date Africa Diamonds (“we”, “us”) handles personal information in the Date Africa Diamonds mobile applications for iOS and Android (bundle identifier com.dateafricadiamonds.app) and on this website at dateafricadiamond.com.

To be confirmed before launch: the legal entity operating the service, its registered address, and the identity of any data protection officer or representative. Until then, privacy enquiries reach us at privacy@dateafricadiamond.com.

Information we collect

Account and sign-in

You can create an account with an email address and password, with a one-time email code, or through Sign in with Apple or Google. When you use Apple or Google we receive the identifying details that provider sends us — typically an email address and a user identifier. We never receive your password for those services.

We also store your phone number where you provide one, and the date your account was created.

Your profile

You choose what to put in your profile. The fields available are:

  • About you: first name, date of birth, gender, height, education, profession, languages, interests, lifestyle details, a written bio and prompt answers.
  • Where you are: hometown, country of origin, and the city, region and country you currently live in.
  • What you are looking for: relationship goal, whether you have or want children and on what timeline, family proximity, openness to relocation and long distance, preferred partner locations, and how far you are willing to look.
  • Faith: your faith and how important it is to you.

Every one of these is optional except those needed to create a usable profile. You can edit or remove them at any time.

Photos

Profile photos you upload, and any images you send in a chat. Adding photos requires your permission to access your photo library or camera; you can decline and still use the rest of the app, and you can change that permission in your device settings at any time.

Messages

The content of messages you exchange with people you have matched with, including images, and delivery and read status. Messages are stored so the service can deliver them and so they can be reviewed if someone reports them.

Verification

If you complete verification, we collect an identity document and a selfie so that a reviewer can confirm you are a real person and that the document belongs to you.

Membership and purchases

If you subscribe, we record your membership tier, subscription status, billing period and renewal or cancellation dates, and we receive confirmation of the transaction from Apple or Google. We never see or store your card number or payment details — the app stores are the merchant of record.

Safety and moderation records

Reports you make or that are made about you, accounts you block, and the outcome of any review. Where a report concerns a specific conversation, the relevant messages form part of that record.

Technical information

A device push token if you enable notifications, along with the platform, device name and app version; when you were last active; and standard server logs such as IP address, needed to operate and secure the service.

This website

If you join the waitlist we store your email address and your consent. If you contact support we store your name, email address, the topic and your message. The website sets no advertising or analytics cookies. Dismissing the announcement banner uses your browser’s session storage, which is never sent to us.

What we do not collect

Some things are worth stating explicitly, because many dating apps do collect them and we do not:

  • Device or GPS location. The app does not ask for location permission and does not track where you are. Distance between members is estimated from the cities you each entered, using a fixed table of city coordinates.
  • Advertising identifiers. There are no ad networks in the app or on this site.
  • Third-party analytics or behavioural tracking. No analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, no session recording, no social media pixels.
  • Your contacts, microphone or calendar. The app does not request these permissions.

Sensitive information, and how we treat it

Two kinds of information we handle get extra protection under data protection law such as the UK and EU GDPR:

  • Your faith, which is information about religious belief.
  • Your identity document and verification selfie, which identify you directly.

We handle both only with your explicit consent, given when you choose to fill in that part of your profile or to start verification. You do not have to provide either in order to use the service, and you can withdraw consent by removing the information or by contacting us — although we may then be unable to keep your account verified.

Being a member of a dating service can itself suggest something about your private life. We treat the fact of your membership as confidential and never disclose it for marketing.

How we use your information

  • To create your account and show your profile to other members.
  • To suggest people to you, using the preferences and intentions you have stated. This is a rules-based process using the criteria you provide — it is not automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
  • To deliver your messages and notifications.
  • To verify identity where you ask us to.
  • To operate memberships and process store-based subscriptions.
  • To keep people safe: investigating reports, enforcing our Community Guidelines, detecting fraud and abuse, and preventing under-18s from using the service.
  • To answer your support requests.
  • To meet legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Who can see what

Other members

Your profile — photos, first name, age, the cities you entered, and the details you filled in — is visible to other members in discovery and matching. Your email address, phone number, date of birth and verification documents are never shown to other members.

Profile photos and links

Profile photos are served from a public media address. This means that anyone who has the direct link to an image can open it without signing in, and that a link may continue to work after a match ends. Please bear that in mind when choosing what to upload. Images sent inside chats are stored privately and are accessible only to the people in that conversation, through short-lived links.

Our team

A small number of trained staff can access member records where necessary to review a report, assess a verification, or answer a support request. That access is role-restricted and every action is recorded in an internal audit log.

Service providers

We share personal information only with providers who process it on our behalf, under contract and on our instructions:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, file storage and server functions. This is where your account and content live.
  • Expo — delivery of push notifications to your device, if you enable them.
  • Resend — sending transactional email, such as support replies.
  • Apple — Sign in with Apple, and App Store purchases and subscription notifications.
  • Google — Google sign-in, and Google Play purchases and subscription notifications.
  • Vercel — hosting for this website.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect the safety of a member, a child, or the public.

International transfers

Our community spans many countries, and your information may be processed outside the country where you live. Where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses. To be confirmed before launch: the specific hosting region of our database and the safeguards recorded for each provider.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it, or as long as the law requires.

  • Your account: until you delete it. Deletion removes your profile and the records attached to it.
  • Safety and abuse records: kept longer where necessary to protect other members from someone who has been removed, and to prevent them returning.
  • Support messages: kept for as long as needed to resolve your request and keep a record of it.
  • Waitlist email addresses: until you unsubscribe.

To be confirmed before launch: specific retention periods, and how long deleted data persists in encrypted backups before being overwritten.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access a copy of your information, correct it, delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, withdraw consent, and ask for it in a portable format. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

The quickest route for most of these is inside the app. Otherwise email privacy@dateafricadiamond.com. We will not treat you differently for exercising a right.

To delete your account, see Account deletion.

Security

Access to member data is restricted at the database level, so a member can only read their own records and those the service is designed to show them. Verification documents and chat images are stored in private locations reachable only through short-lived signed links. Staff access is limited by role and recorded in an audit log.

No service can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise. If a breach affects you and the law requires us to tell you, we will.

Age requirement

Date Africa Diamonds is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. This is enforced in our systems: an account cannot be created with a date of birth under 18.

We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor is using the service, report it immediately — see our Child Safety Standards.

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, tell you directly in the app or by email.
